Welcome

Dear Colleagues, Accompanying Persons and Friends,

On behalf of the Organizing and Scientific Committees, we would like to welcome you to the 30th International Symposium on Shock Waves (ISSW30), which will be held on July 19-24, 2015 in Tel-Aviv (the city that never sleeps), Israel. ISSW30 is a continuation in the series of biannual international symposia that have been held all over the world since 1957. ISSW12 was held in Jerusalem, Israel, in 1979

ISSW30 will be held in the elegant venue of the Dan Panorama Convention Center of the Dan Panorama Hotel in Tel Aviv that is located along the picturesque sea shore of the Mediterranean.

As in previous symposia, ISSW30 will cover analytical, experimental and numerical studies, both basic and applied, of shock and blast wave related phenomena. The subjects that will be covered in ISSW30 include medical, biological and industrial applications; chemical kinetics and chemical reacting flows; detonation and combustion; ignition; propulsion; shock waves in dense and rarefied gases; shock waves in condensed matter (liquids and solids); facilities; flow visualization; shock wave related diagnostics and spectroscopy; supersonic and hypersonic flows and jets with shocks and nozzle flows; impact and compaction; magneto-hydro-dynamics; compressible multiphase flows; plasmas; shock/vortex interaction; shock/boundary layer interaction; shock wave reflection from and interaction with obstacles; shock wave focusing; shock wave interaction with dusty, granular and porous media; shock waves in space and re-entry to the earth atmosphere; and last but not least Richtmyer-Meshkov instability.

The International Advisory Committee (IAC) that includes 47 members from 19 countries will choose nine world-renowned scientists in the area of shock waves who will deliver nine invited plenary lectures in different shock wave related disciplines. The invited plenary lectures will include the Paul Vieille Lecture in the opening session of ISSW30 and the Irvine Israel Glass Lecture in the closing session of ISSW30.

All the participants will be able to choose between two half day tours, one to Jerusalem or one to the Galilee. Three additional half day tours to well-known touristic attractions will be offered to the accompanying persons.

A welcome party will be held in the Dan Panorama hotel in the evening of Sunday, July 19, 2015, and a Symposium Banquet will be held in the evening of Thursday, July 23, 2015 in a unique and fascinating location.

The organizing company, Ortra Ltd., will offer pre- and post-symposium tours to a variety of “must see” locations.

We look forward to the pleasure of welcoming you at what promises to be an exciting, shocking and fruitful meeting of a high scientific standard.

ISSW30 is a must attend scientific and social event of 2015!!!
