The Fuel Choices Initiative, the Israeli government’s program for advancing alternatives fuels and means of transportation, was launched in 2011 as a joint effort by ten government ministries, headed by the Prime Minister’s Office. The program is multidisciplinary in nature and international in scope. It derives from Israel and the world’s strategic need to dramatically decrease reliance on oil in transportation – with all accompanying geopolitical, economic, and environmental implications.
The Initiative aims to create a business-supportive environment for the market through simplification of bureaucratic processes, funding of top-notch research, support of international cooperation projects, scientific conferences and exchanges, promotion of relevant industry to investors, services and consultation to municipalities, and backing experimentation and field trials. It has set an ambitious goal of reducing Israel’s oil consumption in transportation by 60% by 2025, and thereby serving as a showcase for the world
Since 1920, Keren Hayesod – United Israel Appeal has been at the forefront of Israel’s growth and progress. Founded as the fundraising arm of the Zionist movement, its history has been inextricably intertwined with that of the State of Israel.
In its early years, with the help of donations raised throughout the Jewish world, KH brought tens of thousands of Jews fleeing Europe to Eretz Yisrael and helped to absorb them, set up dozens of communities, and provided housing and jobs. Today Keren Hayesod – UIA works to further the national priorities of the State of Israel and Israeli society through a variety of projects.
KH – UIA programs and projects are adapted to meet the changing needs of contemporary Israel and the Jewish world. They are designed to provide social, cultural, and educational frameworks that ultimately spur growth and expand horizons for Israel and the Jewish people.
Israel’s Prime Minister’s Office is responsible for coordinating the work of all governmental ministries and serving and assisting Israel’s Prime Minister in his work. It is also responsible for formulating and supervising implementation of cabinet policy, and overseeing several governmental agencies and programs which report directly to the Prime Minister.
The Ministry of Science, Technology and Space aims to advance, encourage and foster science to the highest levels of achievement and creativity in Israel and to place Israel as a leading scientific and technological power. It constitutes a connecting link between basic research, applied research and industrial development. The Ministry of Science, Technology and Space is a key agency in shaping and advancing Israel’s R&D policy. Seeking excellence and aspiring to position Israel as a leading country of science and technology, the Ministry identifies scientific and technological research areas that are of national priority. In addition, it acts to develop human capital as well as physical infrastructures, to strengthen as well as initiate the international governmental scientific relations and to leverage Israel’s relative advantages. The Ministry is also active in bringing science closer to society and strengthening populations that are under-represented in the scientific sphere as well as strengthening science in the periphery.
One of the major goals of the Ministry is to enhance civil space and establish it as a scientific research area of high priority in Israel. In the last years the Ministry substantially increased governmental investment in the civil space program through the Ministry’s Israel Space Agency (ISA), which is one of the main organs of the Ministry.
