Half-Day Tour in Pamplona

09:30 Departure from the Conference hotels to a visit in Pamplona. The visit will commence with a panoramic bus tour of the modern zone of the City, including: Yamaguchi Park & Planetarium, the University of Navarra and medical campus, and the “Ensanche” (the new “enlargement” of Pamplona). Next, continue to a visit of the Ciudadela (“Military Citadel”) and the park surrounding it (“La Vuelta del Castillo”). It is a grand military structure, in the shape of a five-pointed star that today is a green belt and park for the use of the city’s residents and visitors.
Next, travel to the Plaza del Castillo, the center of “Old Town”, for a walking tour, which begins with the theme of the “Running of the Bulls” and the Festival of Saint Fermin including a visit to the Plaza de Toros the “bullfighting arena” (if open) and strolling down the famous Estafeta Street. Then, the tour will ascend to the Cathedral, which rests on the highest part of the City. Visiting the church, its cloister, and the Diocesan Museum, as well as a great viewpoint on the city. Continue walking through the history of Pamplona and the route that leads travelers down the ancient pilgrimage trail to Santiago de Compostela.
Arrive at the Ayuntamiento (“Town Hall”), a baroque façade structure that was constructed in 1756, and is known throughout the world as the launch-site for the famous “rocket”, which marks the beginning of the nine-day Festival of Saint Fermin. Nearby, is the “Church of Saint Saturnino”, a charming example of XIII century craftsmanship, with a grand baroque chapel dedicated to the patron saint of Pamplona, Virgen del Camino.


Half-Day Tour to Olite

09:30 Departure from the Conference hotels to a visit to Olite. Olite was the capital of the kingdom of Navarra. It keeps the medieval structure with narrow streets, stone houses and two important churches. The church of Santa María was built in gothic style and it has a great façade from the XIII century. The church of San Pedro was started to be built in Romanesque style and it has a Romanesque cloister and an original gothic tower. Continue to a visit to the castle of Olite. The castle-palace of Olite is the result of different constructive moments. The oldest part is from the XIII century and today is used as a Parador (Hotel). The palace was built during the kingdom of Charles the III, at the end of the XIV century and beginning of the XV.
