Depart from your hotel in the morning and drive
to the new town of Rhodes, which was built around the walls
of the medieval city. Drive up to Monte Smith for a marvelous
panoramic view of the town including the Hellenistic Acropolis,
the Stadium and the Amphitheatre. Continue on passing the new
town with its impressive municipal buildings such as the Town
Hall, the National Theatre, the Church of Evangelismos, Prefecture
and the Courthouse. Drive on to the d’Amboise Gate of
the Old Town, and continue by foot through the narrow cobblestone
streets to the museum, which is situated in the Hospital of
the Knights and on to the Grand Master’s Palace. Drive
back to your hotel. |

Drive down the west coast of Rhodes Island,
to the village of Ialysos, one of the three ancient cities that
combined to found Rhodes Town. Visit Mount Filerimos, the site
of the ancient Acropolis of Ialysos as well as the magnificent
Monastery of the Holy Virgin with its re-creation of the Via
Dolorosa and beautiful panoramic view of the north-west coast
of Rhodes Island. Continue on to Kamiros village, the best-preserved
ancient settlement in the world. Proceed on to visit the famous
Valley of the Butterflies, the gathering point for a special
species of butterflies which fill up the valley during the hot
summer months, coating trees and rocks in their multitude of
colors. Drive back to your hotel. |
