Dear Colleagues,
Since its establishment in 1994, the Israeli Society of Oral Medicine (ISOM) has been a leader in oral health care and the body responsible for the educational activity of oral medicine in Israel.
One of the most significant activities of the ISOM is the International Meeting, aimed at promoting oral medicine and specifically oral oncology. It enables interaction between doctors around the world with the medical profession in Israel and with their Israeli counterparts. In the 1999 and 2004 International Meetings these goals were met with overwhelming enthusiasm.
The 2008 International Meeting continues this tradition and extends it to collaboration with the Multinational Society of Supportive Care in Cancer / International Society of Oral Oncology (MASCC/ISOO). MASCC/ISOO officially joined the ISOM for the purpose of this International Meeting of the ISOM. The two keynote speakers are outstanding scientists that will represent MASCC/ISOO, Prof. Peterson, Prof. Sonis.
Dr. Douglas E Peterson is a Professor and Head, Department of Oral Diagnosis, the School of Dental Medicine University of Connecticut Health Center. Farmington, CT. His contribution to the development of clinical guidelines for the management of cancer patients is phenomenal. Dr. Stephan Sonis is a Professor and Chair, Department of Oral Medicine, Infection and Immunity, Harvard School of Dental Medicine and the Chief of the Division of Oral Medicine, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dentistry, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Dr. Sonis’ research converged on the biology and clinical significance of cancer regimen-related mucosal toxicities. His studies on the molecular and cellular pathogenesis of mucositis have provided targets for treatment interventions.
The ISOM Conference offers an extensive scientific program of the highest standard, with lectures presented by worldwide experts in their fields. Among the main themes to be presented are: Oral Cancer, Oral Complications in Cancer Patients, Supportive Care, Translational Research and Clinical Guidelines.
Dental and medical professionals around the world, each handling different patients (in oral medicine, oral-maxillofacial surgery, general dentistry, oncology, nursing, otolaryngology, head and neck surgery, clinical radiotherapy) will all gather at Tel Aviv in November 2008. We hope the opportunities for both scientific and cultural exchanges, centered on the theme of oral oncology in the 21st century, will prove to be successful and fruitful.
We invite you to be part of this unique event. Make this a memorable experience.
Respectfully,
The Organizing Committee
Dr. Sharon Elad
Dr. Noam Yarom
Dr. Mordechai Findler
Dr. Silvina Friedlander
