Introduction

Dear Friend and Colleague,

It is our privilege and honor to invite you to the FIG Working Week 2009, which will take place in Eilat, a resort city at the southernmost edge of Israel, on the shores of the Red Sea. The Working Week be held on 3-8 May 2009, at the 5*deluxe Herods & Dan Eilat Hotels. We expect to host 700 participants from all over the world.

The professional theme of the Working Week is “Surveyors Key Role in Accelerated Development”, which addresses many of the issues facing surveyors in the next years. As always, the Working Week will gather international professionals and academia members from the fields of land surveying, land and real-estate appraisal, GIS, spatial planning, environmental awareness, and civil engineering.

All ten FIG technical commissions will attend the conference and papers are therefore requested to all topics of interest of the following FIG commissions:

  • Professional Standards and Practice
  • Professional Education
  • Spatial Information Management
  • Hydrography
  • Positioning and Measurement
  • Engineering Surveys
  • Cadastre and Land Management
  • Spatial Planning and Development
  • Valuation and the Management of Real Estate
  • Construction Economics and Management

A special seminar on the history of surveying and measurement to be held on Sunday 3 May 2009.

This Call for Papers is announced both for peer review papers and non peer review papers. Detailed information and important dates are shown below. This call for papers as a .pdf file.

Non Peer Review – Submission of Abstracts

We invite you to submit an abstract for the FIG Working Week by 1 December 2008. The abstract should be 250 to 500 words in length describing the objectives, results, conclusions and significance of your work. The abstracts should also include the names and affiliations of all authors. Please feel free to submit an abstract on any topic related to the specific topics of the Working Week 2009. List of topics of special interest of different commissions and the organising committee are listed below.

The abstract shall be submitted online to FIG on the following web site:

Deadline for submitting the abstract is 1 December 2008. For other important deadlines see important dates.

Please include at the end of your abstract all your contact details, including name, address, phone and fax numbers and email. Please also include on your abstract whether you have a preference for a poster or an oral presentation. Receipt of your abstract will be acknowledged electronically.

When submitting a paper the author(s) agree that FIG has the right to publish the paper in the conference proceedings (at the conference and on the FIG web site); in the FIG Surveyors Reference Library; and in the FIG online journal (if selected for this purpose) without any other agreement or compensation. The copyright of the paper remains by the author(s).

The number of abstracts is limited to maximum two per author.

Peer Review – Submission of Full Papers

If you want to present a peer reviewed paper at the FIG Working Week 2009 you should submit your full paper by 1 December 2008. When preparing the paper, please follow the guidelines prepared for papers (paper guidelines and the specific paper template for FIG Working Week 2009). Please feel free to submit an abstract on any topic related to the specific topics of the Working Week 2009. List of topics of special interest of different commissions and the organising committee are listed below.

The peer review process is double blind and deadlines for different steps can be seen below under important dates.

Full papers shall be submitted to FIG in electronic format to:

History Workshop

After recent very successful History workshops in Munich and Stockholm the International Institution for History of Surveying and Measurement (IHSM) hope to have a day of sessions with papers relating to the History of Surveying on 3 May 2009.   Deadline for authors to submit non peer reviewed abstracts.   Deadline for authors to submit full papers for peer review.

  Confirmation to authors of acceptance of non peer reviewed abstracts.   First notification to authors of acceptance of peer reviewed papers.

For accepted papers, authors will also be notified of any modifications required by the reviewers.

Authors of papers not accepted for peer review will be offered to convert the paper to the non peer review process.

2 February 2009
  Deadline for authors to submit revised full paper for 2nd round of peer review (depending on proposed corrections from reviewers).
16 February 2009
  Second notification to authors of acceptance of peer reviewed papers with the possibility of further modifications from the 2nd round of peer review.
